Saudi TikToker "Karisma Aboushalach" Draws Millions of Followers With Everyday Content

Mohammed Al-Otaibi

Mohammed Al-Otaibi, a Saudi content creator, has built a following of over 3.8 million on TikTok through videos of ordinary daily life.

RIYADH — Mohammed Al-Otaibi, a Saudi national who goes by the username Karisma Aboushalach on social media, has accumulated more than 3.8 million followers on TikTok and around 168 million likes on the platform, according to Arabic-language media reports published in May 2026.
Al-Otaibi's content consists largely of short videos depicting routine situations — outings, gatherings, and everyday moments — a format commonly described in the industry as lifestyle content. He is also active on Instagram and Snapchat.
The pseudonym he uses blends two words from different registers: "Karisma," an Arabic rendering of "charisma" widely used in informal speech among Arab youth, and "Aboushalach," a term drawn from Saudi colloquial Arabic.
His following places him among the more widely watched creators in Saudi Arabia's lifestyle content segment, though it remains well below the subscriber counts of the country's top-tier influencers.

A Growing but Regulated Sector
Saudi Arabia has seen a steady increase in content creators over the past several years. The country has one of the highest per-capita rates of TikTok usage in the Arab region, and a demographic profile skewed toward younger age groups. Government initiatives under the Vision 2030 plan have explicitly targeted the creative economy as a development priority.
At the same time, the sector operates under increasing regulatory oversight. The Saudi Journalists Association and other bodies have moved toward a licensing framework for content creators, a shift that industry observers say is bringing the profession closer in line with formal media standards.
Whether those structural changes will affect the kind of informal, personality-driven content that Al-Otaibi produces remains an open question.

Limits of the Numbers
Follower counts on TikTok measure reach, not necessarily influence or longevity. Platform algorithms change frequently, and audience attention in the short-video format is notoriously difficult to retain over time. Al-Otaibi has not, based on available sources, expanded into other formats such as podcasting or long-form video, nor has he announced commercial ventures beyond standard brand partnerships typical of creators at his level.
Arabic-language media coverage of Al-Otaibi increased noticeably in late May 2026, with outlets including Al-Tariq, Al-Addustour, Al-Ahram Gate, Al-Wafd, Al-Fajr, Al-Osboa, Kuuld, Tawusal, and Akher News publishing profiles or mentions of his account.
